Early Childhood

Program/Service Description:

The school district's Early Childhood program, which is located at Ronald Reagan Elementary School, serves 3-5 year old children who have met the criteria for special education services.  Each child’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) outlines their specific learning goals, supports/services, and location those services are provided. Special education and related services are provided in the Early Childhood classroom and, as appropriate, in the New Berlin Preschool, which also is located at Ronald Reagan Elementary.   

Role of Position:

The role of the Early Childhood special education teacher, is to provide services to students and provide support to families.  Areas of student development that are specifically addressed include social-emotional development, behavior, self-help, and problem-solving/pre-academics.  The Early Childhood teacher works in coordination with all members of the student’s IEP team.

Preschool Options

Program/Service Description:

The Early Childhood Preschool Options Program serves children in the school district of New Berlin who are eligible for special education services in home, preschool, child care, and other community settings.  Each child’s Individualized Education Program outlines specific learning goals, supports/services, and location of the services provided by the District to address disability-related needs.  In addition to direct services, staff provide ongoing coaching to parents and caregivers about effective educational techniques and strategies specific to the child.

Role of Position:

The role of the early childhood special education teacher is multi-faceted.  Preschool Options staff serve as the student’s ongoing case manager as well as providing special education services. Areas of development specifically addressed include social-emotional development, behavior, self-help, and problem-solving/pre-academics. Staff work in coordination with all members of the student’s IEP team.
