First Graders work very hard in school. They need the opportunity to relax and spend time with family, friends, and extra-curricular activities. A First Grader should not be spending more than 20 - 30 minutes a night on homework, including 15 minutes of reading each school night.
First Grade homework should always include reading! Being read to and reading to others is most beneficial... and fun! In addition to 15 minutes of reading, First Grade homework may also include the following (Obviously not all on the same day!) :
Math Home Links
Word Wall Practice
Handwriting Practice (approximately two letters per week)
Math Fact Practice (2nd Semester)
Spelling Word Sort
Completing any unfinished classwork
Vacation "Homework":
-keep a journal of your experiences to share with the class
-read every day
-missed class work will be given upon child's return
