Scoring guide for our first presentation

In addition to these scoring rubrics, we frequently use the terms Beginning (B), Developing (D), and Secure (S) when we score students’ class work and assessments, as well as on the Math Proflies.   “Beginning” means that the student has been introduced to the concept, knowledge, or skill and is beginning to use or experiment with it.  At the “Beginning” level a student is not yet independent, and there are typically misunderstandings and mistakes.  “Developing” means that the student demonstrates the concept or knowledge or uses the skill more independently (with less support). There may still be some misunderstandings. “Secure” means that the student successfully demonstrates understanding independently and work is completed with very few if any errors.

On the quarterly Report Cards you will see the marks NI, S, VG, and E.  NI stands for Needs Improvement; S for Satisfactory; VG for Very Good; and E for Excellent.  If students are successfully completing the 2nd Grade level work we expect, that is considered "Satisfactory".

If you or your child ever has a question about a mark or score on a paper, please ask the teacher.  With our scoring rubrics, the B's, D's, S's, and NI's, S's, VG's, and E's it can get confusing.  We will always try to be clear about which scoring system we're using.
