My name is Monica Ann Lapin. I am the Speech and Language Pathologist at Elmwood School for children in kindergarten through sixth grade.
Elmwood is an inclusive school environment and this defines the approach and philosophy of the speech and language therapy program. I work with teachers within the classroom setting to work on communication skills that will faciliate success in the school.
Preschool screening is provided throughout the year at each of the Elementary schools. This is a developmental screening for children ages 3 to 5. It is used to identify children who may require additional assessment, programming, or monitoring. These decisions are made based on an informal assessment of the child, a background history, and a discussion with the parent. Most children who attend are not referred for further testing. Sometimes parents are given suggestions and encouraged to return for another screenign in the spring or fall. For preschoolers, it is a nice introduction to school. Each child ends the session by choosing a book they can keep.
