Academic & Support Area Interventionists

Secondary Literacy Coach

As Ike's Literacy Interventionist, I work with students, teachers and our administrative team!

One of our school goals this year is in the area of reading/literacy; as a team, the secondary staff will work to embed literacy skills within each subject area. Using our assessments and school data, I work with teams to  identify students who need reading interventions. Following a referral process and careful planning, I  provide reading and literacy interventions in a small group setting, and/or assist instructors in providing additional interventions within their class(es).  I am part of the school Building Leadership Team, Problem Solving Team, Student Services and Response to Intervention Teams, and work with our school Professional Learning Communities to integrate literacy into every content area.  Please let me know if I can assist you!

Interventions available to students of New Berlin Eisenhower

Intervention Labs are offered to students in grades 7-12 in the four core content areas of English, Math, Science, and Social Studies.  These intervention labs can be for the reasons of achievement related needs and /or behavior needs of students.  Labs are staffed by interventionists who are certified as instructors in the State of Wisconsin for the subject area they support.  In the case of English and Math labs, they are additionally supported throughout the school day with classroom instructors who teach in their respective subject areas other hours of the school day.

NHS Tutor Request  NHS students are available to tutor students in all subject areas during their study halls, before school or after school in all subject areas.

Assignment Completion & Support  Students access ninth hour in order to gain support in addressing behaviors that impact learning in a class.  Most times students are assigned ninth hour due to missing, late, or incomplete assignments.  Support is provided for students to complete assignments and learn habits that will help to support their learning throughout their school experience.  Students are not assigned to a ninth hour if they have work completed to teacher expectations and/or their behaviors are not negatively impacting their learning.  Ninth hour takes place from 2:30 PM – 3:15 PM in the LMC and has staff to support learning by core subject area as appropriate.

Lunch & Learn  Students access lunch and learn in order to gain support in addressing behaviors that impact learning in a class.  Most times students are assigned lunch and learn due to missing, late, or incomplete assignments.  Support is provided for students to complete assignments and learn habits that will help to support their learning throughout their school experience.  Students are not assigned to a Lunch and Learn if they have work completed to teacher expectations and/or their behaviors are not negatively impacting their learning.

Other Lab supports are identified as follows:

Walk-In lab support:  Students can access any of the core area labs throughout the school day during their study hall or other free time to receive support on homework and/or subject area skills they are struggling with.  This voluntary access to the lab provides an opportunity for students to get regular support when their classroom teacher may be unavailable due to teaching another class at the time the student is able to complete their work.

Assigned lab support during the school day:   Students assigned to an intervention lab during the school day are assigned due to an identified skill deficit that requires additional time, reteaching, and/or other intervention outside of that typically provided by the classroom teacher.  Students assigned to a subject area intervention lab remain only as long as necessary to achieve the specific skill where there has been an identified deficit.  Students normally attend the lab for this reason for up to four weeks in order to achieve success and earn the opportunity to be excused from this learning support.
