Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students of the Eisenhower Community,
As many of you may be aware there is a constant attention given within our building to augment and fine tune supports we can offer to our students. Our focus this semester will be the implementation of additional supports to students in the core subject areas provided through a restructuring of our traditional study hall model. Our goal is to provide timely, targeted, and systematic interventions to all students in need at Eisenhower. In order to do this, school personnel will identify students in need of support, relocate some of our study halls, and change the layout of our school library into the hub of learning support.
If you wonder what affect this may have for your child, please understand that you and your child may soon receive notice that there has been a change to their schedule. Depending on individual students, changes will vary in scope and degree. It is likely that some students will be assigned out of a traditional study hall and into a small group support lab. For example, a student who struggles in Science may be assigned to the Science lab, (connected to the LMC), where he/she will be given individual attention by a staff person, who has consulted the student’s science teacher, and directed support will be given to help them within that class. Another likely possibility will be that your child’s study hall has relocated into the Library, where they will not be assigned specific support labs, but will have access to them at their discretion, as well as the resources regularly available in the library. Students may voluntarily attend or be assigned to regular, ongoing intervention areas to support their classroom learning in the essential areas of the curriculum. These supports, made possible through the addition of support staff and their collaboration with teaching staff, will provide an enhanced level of targeted interventions for our students.
On a related note, we are actively seeking to provide a study area for those students who have exceeded academic and behavioral expectations while at Eisenhower. We will be renovating a space in the building and introducing an “Honors Lounge” for those students who meet a number of qualifying criteria. It is our hope that our students will endeavor to receive this privilege and enjoy the rewards of their hard work and studies. Students who qualify for this privilege will be notified at a later date by school officials.
We would like to thank you for your continued interest and support of your students and learning. We believe that providing access to additional supports and rewarding those students who exceed expectation is necessary to truly implement the appropriate foundation for student learning. If you have any comment, question, or input on any information contained in this letter, please contact the appropriate grade level administrator for your student at your convenience.
Respectfully yours,
The Eisenhower Administrative Team
