Welcome to second grade at Elmwood Elementary! My name is Amy Stempniewski, and I am proud to be a part of our fabulous learning community. In second grade, we are fortunate to work with the entire second grade teaching team including Ms. Jeske, Ms. Oswald, and Ms. Slaby.
Elmwood is an amazing place to be. The staff, students and families work as partners in education to make learning a meaningful, fun adventure. Second grade is a very busy and exciting year. We will dig deeper becoming responsible readers; ask why as mathematicians; and even take on the roll of research scientists as we study endangered animals; all while being respectful, responsible and safe community members.
New Berlin has been the home of my teaching career for the past 12 years. Previously, I taught first and second grade in Milwaukee Public Schools. My bachelor’s degree is from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. I received my master's degree in curriculum and instruction, with a reading emphasis, from National Louis University. In addition, I have been trained in Early Reading Empowerment (ERE) and Orton-Gillingham (OG).
We will have a wonderful second grade year together. Go Lion Cubs!
