Welcome to Elmwood Elementary School!

Please click PLAY (arrow) to learn more about our school.

Elmwood Elementary School  is a kindergarten to grade six elementary school committed to uniting, as a learning community, the students, parents, staff and interested others to create a very special learning environment.  We utilize research-based practices to ensure individual growth, so the joy and discovery of learning becomes a life-long process. To this end, school goals include increasing students’ growth in the academic areas as well as nurturing creativity and life skills.

We have found that many of our beliefs that relate to student learning also apply to school staff members, as we work together to effect real change in the way we think about teaching and learning. Our future depends upon how we grow and change. We have seen that change will occur when risk taking is encouraged and valued. We believe that while people learn in different ways and at different rates, each person has strengths that need to be recognized and nurtured. We believe that each person learns best and can be successful when he or she is safe and secure and is given enough time and resources.  Because change involves risk-taking, we believe that mutual trust, respect and honesty among all people are essential to learning, which goes beyond the schoolhouse and is a life long process.

MISSION STATEMENT

Creating a passion for student learning, which results in the development of proven skills and knowledge, is the mission of the Elmwood Learning Community.  Through innovative learning approaches, we focus on the individual needs of our children.

"The Elmwood spirit is something you can only find at Elmwood. It's the little things like walking past each other in the hall and saying "Hi!" rather than just smiling and looking away. It's like everyone knows each other. It is just more fun to be part of a school that's "one." If you walk past a classroom, you hear the students talking and listening, not just the teachers. Elmwood is a one of a kind school."
