Preparation for Academic & Career Planning Family Nights
For those of you new to ACP, it is relatively "new term" for a process that administrators, counselors and staff have leveraged with students for years. It involves getting to know students, helping them set personal, social, academic and career goals, and supporting them as they develop action plans to reach their goals.
In the SDNB, this process is formalized to ensure that ALL students have access to quality mentorship in a manner that supports their unique needs. Most of the lessons are delivered during advisory and further supported through ongoing discussions with staff. Please know, you are an important part of this process.
Given the cost of higher education, statistics about college completion rates, and labor market projections, the SDNB is committed to ensuring that students graduate as informed consumers of their post-secondary education. The learning experiences they have in middle and high school can help inform their Academic and Career Plan and their choices after high school.
Here are some suggestions of things you can do to become involved with your son or daughter's ACP prior to the Academic & Career Planning Family Nights in January:
-
-
-
Talk with your son or daughter about the reflection questions included in the ACP Guide as well as those covered during their Advisory Period.
-
Discuss what subjects your son or daughter would like to learn about and what experiences they would like to participate in to develop their ACP.
-
Ask your child to share their personal statement, goals, and action plan with you.
-
Come prepared with any questions/concerns that you would like answered.
If you have any questions/concerns, please contact your student's counselor.
