Program Eligibility
This program is open to juniors or seniors in good standing who qualify for open campus privileges and who have successfully completed a college-level course (Advanced Placement (AP), Dual enrollment, Youth/Course Options Program, UW-Oshkosh Cooperative Academic Partnership Program (CAPP), Transcripted Credit, Project Lead the Way (PLTW), etc.).
Program Structure
Students engaged in this class spend a portion of time with their teacher learning content and the remainder of their time with their team completing research and portions of their project portfolio. This level of independence and trust is important to the learning objectives of the course, and will most likely involve time off campus. It may be revoked at any time which may result in a student being withdrawn from the course.
Mandatory Dates
Students and their families: Take Note! There are mandatory meeting/event dates associated with the Advanced Innovation and Design course outside of your normal class time. This includes evening dates and/or times during the school day which necessitate missing other classes. You will be provided a list of these dates prior to the start of the course so that you can plan accordingly.
ATTENTION: Professional Mentors
We are in the process of securing team mentors for the 2022-23 school year. Mentors attend UWM pop-up classes with their team for context on the Lean LaunchPad methodology and guide the students through the design thinking process to apply what they are learning to develop a solution to their challenge. They can also serve to connect the teams to others in their network with relevant subject matter expertise.
We are also in need of guest presenters (team building, ideation, patents, etc.) and resources that can assist with customer discovery (i.e. on site tours and interviews related to student challenges).
Teams typically benefit the most from those with expertise that supports our primary innovation strands. For example, Marketing, Global Business, Social Change, Retail, Engineering, Healthcare, Digital Transformation, Design Thinking, Startups, etc.
If you would like to get involved, please contact Kelli.Kwiatkowski@nbexcellence.org.
