In spring 2024, the Board of Education commissioned a combined community and staff Outdoor Facilities Task Force to explore plans and possible funding mechanisms needed to improve the outdoor athletic complexes at both New Berlin Eisenhower and West.
Eisenhower and West are currently the only high schools in Waukesha County that do not have any turf or synthetic playing surfaces, and two of only six Woodland Conference schools without turf. All of New Berlin's contiguous neighbors have turf football / soccer stadium surfaces; some have additional turfed fields (i.e. baseball, softball). Additionally, Eisenhower and West's tracks are in disrepair and need to be reconstructed. Also, other potential upgrades, such as the addition of lights and / or the reconfiguration of current field layouts would result in more usage and availability.
The impact of improved outdoor facilities would be felt throughout the School District of New Berlin and the greater New Berlin community. Eisenhower and West student-athletes from a number of teams would benefit greatly from the increased playability and availability of turfed surfaces. Additionally, various clubs and activities such as marching band, color guard and countless others, would benefit, as well. Youth sports organizations would also contribute to maximizing the usage of any improved facilities.
The Task Force includes X community members and several staff members, including coaches, teachers and school / district administrators.
