English Language Learners
ELL (English Language Learners) provides support to students who are learning English. Students’ language proficiency in English is assessed to determine if they qualify for these services. Any students who speak another language as their home language will have their English proficiency assessed to determine if they qualify for ELL services. ELL services will depend on the student’s proficiency level, but may include individual or small group instruction, specialized English support classes, and in-class support in core subject areas.
Role of Position:
The ELL teacher works directly with students to provide instruction in English reading, writing, listening, and speaking. The ELL teacher conducts required state testing to determine language proficiency. The ELL teacher serves as a resource for classroom teachers and also collaborates with classroom teachers to implement appropriate accommodations for ELLs to be successful in the classroom.
