WI DPI - School Report Cards

School Report Cards for the School District of New Berlin were released October 22 by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI). Each district school received its own report card that evaluated its performance based on multiple measures.

With the School Report Cards, each public school earns a “score,” called an accountability index score, from 0 to 100. The score is based on performance in four priority areas:

  • Student achievement in reading and mathematics on state assessments
  • Student growth, measured by year-to-year improvements in reading and math achievement
  • Closing gaps in performance between specific student groups (comparing English language learners, low-income students, students with disabilities, and members of racial or ethnic group with their peers)
  • On-track to graduation/postsecondary readiness, using reliable predictors of high school graduation and postsecondary success

It’s important to note that the 0 to 100 accountability index score is not a “percent correct” measurement. Instead, in combination with other school data, the score will help schools determine greatest strengths and opportunities for improvement. A school’s score determines where it falls on a spectrum of categories ranging from “Significantly Exceeding Expectations” down to “Persistently Failing to Meet Expectations.”

School Report Cards show School District of New Berlin meeting or exceeding expectations.

The School District of New Berlin schools are in a unique position in the State of Wisconsin, with the district’s grade 7-12 middle/high schools being compared to 9-12 schools statewide; and K-6 elementary schools being compared to K-5 school statewide. Please be aware of this if you choose to compare SDNB School Report Cards to other district report cards. The School District of New Berlin has made requests with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction to separate our school data for more accurate comparisons.

School Report Cards will be issued each year as part of a new state-wide accountability system. The system was designed to provide a more complete and balanced picture of school performance that can be used as a guide for school improvement. The accountability system is part of a package of educational reforms that also includes development of a new state achievement test, a new data system and new teacher evaluation methods. For more information about the reforms known as Agenda 2017, visit http://dpi.wi.gov/sprntdnt/2017_resources.html.
